I like to think that most of the time, I put a fairly fashionable foot forward. However, there are days when I don’t feel like getting dressed, opting to stay in my t-shirt and yoga pants (ahem! pajamas) or maybe stepping it up with a t-shirt and jeans. Sound familiar? If you’re anything like me, you may have QUITE the collection of old t-shirts lying around your house. Concert tees, race tees, DIY tees, college tees…you name it, I have it in my t-shirt drawer, rotating through for pajamas and lounging.
Ladies, it’s time to bring those t-shirts out of loungewear. Outfits built around t-shirts are popping up all over (e.g. 1 Concert T: 5 Editors), falling into the category I have deemed “lazy mom fashion” – perfect for those days when you want something easy.
Ok, ok…you CAN buy a brand new ”designer” concert t-shirt for $260 (e.g. this one). But honestly, when you look at these “designer t-shirts,” aren’t you picturing something back home in your t-shirt drawer? I know I am.
Ooh! Easy AND budget-friendly! Now we’re talking.
First, the inspiration photos featuring some fashion bloggers, a fashion magazine editor and Audrey Tatou:

My Turn!
I selected an old t-shirt from a road race that I did in 2002 for the top four looks and then experimented with some other t-shirts from my stash for the next three.
I mostly stuck to the blazer + jeans idea, but played around with some fitted pants, a workwear skirt, and cardigans. I tried a variety of shoes too! I think the easiest way to start is by selecting a more fitted t-shirt. You want to still look polished, even if you’re sporting an eleven year old t-shirt that you last wore to the gym.
Now, it’s YOUR turn. What do you think? Are you bringing out some old t-shirts to see the light of day? Or are they remaining in your pajama drawer for now?

Awesome! And now we have official permission to wear our t-shirts and still be in style! I love, love the last 3 looks, especially #3. I really think the blazer/cardigan with some fashion foroward shoes and the skinnier pant is clutch. Now, when is the post on making sweatpants cool?
I agree – I think the blazer/cardigan is clutch. I am ok with this idea for casual looks, but I don’t know that I would feel comfortable going to the office in it (skirt look above). It’s fun to try it out though (and see the weird looks your husband gives you!)

Love it! I am throughly disappointed that our homemade black crowes (or were you the white crowe?) tshirt didn’t make it to this post. haha. I love #4 and 7…so cute!
Alas, I don’t have my DIY Black Crowes shirt anymore! (I was definitely a white crow)
Love it! Unfortunately, I don’t think any of my old t-shirts are cool enough (e.g. Jackson Heart Study) or fitted enough (e.g. Old Carnegie Mellon Shirt) to pull this off!
My favorite is the last look with the darker t-shirt and black blazer. The animal print shoes and punch of color in the belt make the look not so lazy after all!
Jackson Heart Study IS cool, Renata!
